Dental Implants
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants can be used to replace a missing tooth. The implant is often made of titanium, and the post replaces the roots of a tooth that has either fallen out or been extracted. Implants are permanent restorations, so you can expect your new implant to last for decades without showing signs of wear. The implant can be used to hold crowns, bridges and full dentures once healed.

Why might Dental Implants be needed?
The main reason for needing a dental implant is because you’re missing a tooth. Rather than wear a partial denture or having to compromise one or more surrounding teeth, an implant works on its own. Implants undergo a process known as osseointegration, which means that the post of the implant will fuse with the underlying bone. Implants are a great way to completely transform and fill in your smile.
Who is a candidate for Dental Implants?
In order for the new implant to heal correctly, it needs to have solid bone to fuse with over the course of a few months. If you have areas of bone loss in and around the jaw area, we’ll typically advise you to have a bone grafting done. Bone grafts add bone material to the area where it is missing. Once the bone grafting has healed, we can easily place the implant with no worries.

What happens during the Dental Implant procedure?
The implant procedure will start with anesthetic. We can provide you with either local or general sedation as needed. We will then make an incision through the gum line and insert the new implant deep into the jawbone. You will come into the office regularly for the next few months so that we can monitor the healing process. Once the implant is able to fuse with the actual bone, we can make a crown, bridge or denture that will fit perfectly over the top of it. You can expect the new implant to last for decades and provide you with a beautiful, full smile.
